The next TJBS Great Albums Concert Series is set to take place Sunday, March 4 at 7pm in the Upstairs Lounge at the City Winery. The subject will be the classic album “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs” by Chick Corea featuring the Matt Endahl Trio with Marcus Finne and Jerry Navarro.

We’re continuing our new partnership to bring the series to City Winery’s Upstairs Lounge. The lounge has comfortable seating and great acoustics, and patrons can enjoy a wonderful dinner with drinks while seeing the show. Doors open at 5 pm and the concert begins at 7 pm. Unlike previous Great Album concerts, there will be only one performance for this series. Tickets are $20, $15 for TJBS members.

The adventurous yet lyrical LP was Corea’s career breakthrough album, establishing him as a significant pianist and composer. Over three days in March 1968, Corea recorded with Miroslav Vitous and Haynes and produced a total of 13 great performances only five of which were used on the original albums. The material ranged from soon-to-be Corea classics like “Matrix” and “Windows” to extended improvised pieces like the title tune to creative interpretations of Thelonious Monk’s “Pannonica” and “My One And Only Love”. In 1999, the title track from the album was given the GRAMMY® Hall of Fame Award.

Matt Endahl is no stranger to the Great Albums series. The Jazz pianist, composer and educator is one of Nashville’s most in-demand pianists, performing in groups led by Jeff Coffin, Chester Thompson, Imer Santiago, Duffy Jackson, Christina Watson, Marcus Finnie, and many others. He also plays regularly with the Dara Tucker Band, Joshua Carswell, and Rahsaan Barber’s Everyday Magic. Matt has also shared the stage with legendary figures like Arthur Blythe, Jimmy Heath, Henry Grimes, David Liebman, Steve Coleman, Jane Ira Bloom and the late Marcus Belgrave.
