October’s installment of the Sessions at Steinway series featured bassist Roger Spencer on Saturday, October 3, 1:30pm. Roger is best known today as one of the founders and directors of the Nashville Jazz Workshop. A native of Indiana, he studied jazz with Dr. David Baker before moving to the West Coast, playing in big bands and small groups with many jazz legends as well as unsung heroes. Besides his role at the Jazz Workshop, Roger is also known as a member of the Beegie Adair Trio and the Lori Mechem Trio. For this interview and performance at the Steinway Gallery, he was joined by pianist Lori Mechem and drummer Duffy Jackson. Host and interviewer was Beegie Adair. The afternoon was a treat for all involved!

Stay tuned for highlights of the event, to be posted in the near future.

Sessions at Steinway is modeled after the award-winning series Inside the Actors’s Studio, and was conceived by saxophonist and TJBS Vice-President, Rahsaan Barber. It offers audiences the rare chance to hear unique and personal accounts of life both on and away from the stage. The “sessions” will include short performances and a Q&A segment for audience interaction.
